Enhancing Healthcare with UX Design

User experience is an important key to the process of effectively engaging patients in the healthcare space. Healthcare providers building healthcare solutions need to understand their target audience and healthcare marketplaces so that users can best find the information they need, understand that information and then act upon it to optimize it effectively. Therefore, user experience is the most important thing for providers to keep in mind.

A good user experience design matters a lot in healthcare space. For instance, a patient with a chronic disease needs a medium or an interface to interact with his/her physician, needs to look for relevant information regarding medical tests, routine check-ups, billing methods and needs to make important decisions; to achieve all of these, a patient needs simple and comprehensive solutions.

An effective user experience in healthcare can play a critical role in the quality and effectiveness of its services. Studies show that there are 53 percent of Americans aged 65 and over use the Internet or email. Thus, if a healthcare provider is targeting this segment of patients, it is important to focus on the main functionalities and technical aspects of its solutions. For instance, if the provider is catering through mobile or website services, it needs to check that menu is clear, the buttons are an appropriate size, the content is relevant, images and medical illustrations are appealing and many other aspects.

Therefore, the user experience in different healthcare contexts can influence the overall quality and effectiveness of healthcare for patients, physicians and the business of healthcare as a whole.
In some contexts, a better user experience can make for a happier customer or a more profitable line of business. In healthcare, a better user experience can save a life.
