In
today’s healthcare landscape where doctors and physicians are extremely busy
with their schedule, it becomes difficult for them to educate and inform their
patients on their health conditions and engage them and their families in their
own healthcare activities. Therefore, it becomes indispensable for providers to
have a patient website that is purposive, interactive and easy to understand
and provides informative knowledge at the same time.
However,
it has been seen that most patient websites are either too complex to
understand for patients or make the prospect of looking for specific
information very difficult for patients.. According to a recent study by
‘The Journal of the American Medical Association’
(JAMA), patients find a lot of health related educational content on the
Internet which is incomprehensible and disorganized and suffers from a ‘lack of
readability’. This is simply because the websites do not have an interactive design and
are too complex to be of any use to those who need it most.
This is where UX design techniques play an
important role. In a UX design process, a visual design gives the website a desired
structure and wire frame which ultimately makes the website a user friendly
interface. A comprehensive website design focuses on patients and their needs
and offers a better user experience.
In
today’s health care economy, the concept of patient engagement has become more
important for providers than ever. A healthy website is one which is highly
targeted to patients and care givers, meets their needs and requirements, and thus
produces desired outcomes.
